Initiatives in Russia

ACF Trustees were invited to Moscow in 1999 as Official International Observers for the Russian Parliamentary elections. While in Moscow, the delegation also met with top religious leaders.   • Sponsored the first inter-faith delegation to the Soviet Union in 1965 and over the years sent 55 missions to the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.
  • In December 1993, 1995 and 1999 Appeal of Conscience delegations have served as official observers to the Parliamentary elections of the Russian Federation and as international observers to the June 1996 Presidential elections. The delegation held discussions with key party leaders on issues of democratization, religious freedom and tolerance.
  • Since 1997, the Foundation has been involved with government and religious leaders in the Russian Federation regarding the law, "Freedom of Conscience and Religious Association."
